Black Lives Matter Statement

We at the Third Generation Project stand in solidarity with Black families and communities in the United States, in Scotland, and around the globe.

We are committed to what should be the self-evident truth that All Black Lives Matter.

At the same time, we recognize that white supremacy and racism are enormous and complex oppressors that reach far beyond the United States and insidiously integrate themselves into the daily lives of Black peoples worldwide.

This year alone, we heard scientists from France seeking to test Covid-19 vaccines in ‘Africa’. Black, Asian, and Minority Ethnic (BAME) communities have been seeing far higher levels of Covid-19 infections and deaths here in the UK.

Meanwhile, in British higher education, Black faculty and students remain severely underrepresented and experience higher levels of mental illness, whether due to a lack of representation within syllabi or unaddressed cultures of racism.

We are not just fighting for the survival of fellow humans but their ability to exist and thrive unabated by racist ideology.
